A Little While Longer

Synopsis: Every two hours, a man in the UK takes his own life. Those who survive a suicide attempt often face stigma and blame. 'A Little While Longer’ is a short documentary that follows three male suicide attempt survivors, coming together on the Isle of Arran for three days, to share their stories of struggle, survival and resilience.

Created by filmmakers Tom van den Hurk, a suicide attempt survivor himself, and Dr Isa Rao, a cognitive neuroscientist, ‘A Little While Longer’ is a wake-up call to break the silence and end the stigma surrounding suicide.


Director Biography - Isa Rao, Tom van den Hurk

Tom van den Hurk is a filmmaker and dramatist who works with vulnerable adults, children and hard-to-reach young people in communities of multiple deprivation.

After studying filmmaking at the SAE Institute in Glasgow, he directed several short films which received a nomination for a BAFTA New Talent and an exhibition place at the National Galleries of Scotland.

Dr. Isa Rao is a filmmaker and cognitive neuroscientist based in Glasgow. Her doctoral studies lead her to an interest in consciousness studies and mental health issues. She is an avid diver, having dived all over Asia and the Caribbean.

In 2018 the team directed/produced the hugely successful documentary Crannog which was picked up by The Guardian and The Atlantic, was screened at over 30 film festivals and was included on the Cinema Eye Honors Shorts List 2020.
